i think i’ve finally made a decision about school next semester. so last week i was freaking out because i thought i would have to stay here another semester because it would take me longer to make a portfolio blah blah blah you can read that post if you dont know what i’m talking about. all of this because i immediately ruled out columbia after visiting it just because its fine arts department wasnt as good as the art institute. but then i realized woah dont do that don’t limit your options. being in texas clearly makes me unhappy and i just dont think i could be here almost another year without going insane. so ANYWAYS here’s what i thought up: go to columbia for about two years then eventually transfer to SAIC to finish up the degree and all of that.
i think trying to go to SAIC right off the bat will be too intense for me. columbia doesnt need a portfolio. i can take all my basic level art classes there to build up my skills and pieces for a future portfolio and learn how college level art classes work. i’ll save a lot of money too. AND i’ll still get to be in chicago, which is what i want so badly. being there for three days made me so happy and its just a perfect location and a perfect CITY with things HAPPENING and theres family nearby and all of that so i wont be completely stranded with no connections or people to touch base with like in oregon. even though columbia wasnt as ideal as SAIC i think it’s a great stepping stone to get where i want to be eventually. i’m feeling good about this now and i think i can make it work.
